Dear Editor,
I have a problem with weight loss and need
some type of inspiration. Every time I try to diet, I quit
after several days. I usually go off my diet and get
discouraged. I sometimes feel that food rules me. Do you have
any suggestions?
~ Need More Inspiration
Dear Reader,
It's easy to lose inspiration if you don't
guard yourself from common weight loss mistakes. One of the
biggest mistake is the
All or Nothing Attitude
The quickest way to defeat ( in terms of
weight loss ) is
to have an "all or nothing" approach to dieting. You know the
story! You break your diet by eating an unplanned piece
of cake and later during the day use that mishap as an excuse
to eat more fatty foods.
Nobody's perfect and you will have days
that you go off your diet. Losing weight demands discipline
and discipline does not come overnight. If you impulsively eat
a fatty food that you did not plan, don't worry about
it and continue your diet. It's the long-term weight
loss result that you're after. One day of eating the wrong
foods will not hurt you. However,
a fatalistic attitude towards weight loss will cause you to
lose will-power and consequently overeat on a daily basis.
As the old saying goes " Keep on
keeping on" and don't let setbacks spoil your day.
Forgive yourself and move on. Learn good
eating habits and expect to have a few bad days. In the end,
it's not what you eat today but how many calories you consume
for the entire month that will mean the difference between
success or failure when it comes to weight loss.
