Dear Diet Tip, I
need to lose weight fast, so I'm thinking of going on a water diet.
I plan to drink 10 to 12 cups of water a day and eat one small meal
at dinner. Do you think this diet will help me lose weight fast and
is it safe?

Dear Mildred,
The only good thing about this water diet is
the amount of water you drink. Most
people should drink at least 8 cups of water per day and much more
if they are active.
The problem with the water diet you suggested
is it's nothing more than a starvation diet. Sure, you will
lose weight at first (if you can stick to it) but you'll gain the
weight back as fast as you lose it.
This water diet will also slow your metabolism
because your body does not burn as many calories when you don't eat. Instead of starving yourself, eat 4 or 5 small meals
during your waking hours. Eat 200 to 300 calories each time and
include 3 to 4 fast pace walks per week.
Diet and exercise is the only way to lose
weight and keep it off. Don't fall into the temptation of drinking
just water to lose weight.
