Walking for
Weight Loss - Q & A
|
|
Dear Editor, Some friends at work were discussing a regular walking routine during lunch for 35 minutes. How much weight loss can I expect? I’m afraid that walking will not help me lose weight. I know this sounds bad, but I don’t want to waste time if walking won’t help me lose weight. I need your advice! ~ Amanda Dear Amanda, Any aerobic activity is good for weight loss. Most people need more exercise, no matter what activity they choose. The problem with today’s society is that we think inactivity is normal because of all the modern equipment that does the work for us. The body was designed to exercise and if you don’t, you will probably become overweight. Walking is not the cure to quick weight loss. Permanent weight loss takes time. Reducing your caloric intake by 25% to 30% combined with a good walking routine will help you lose up to 2 pounds per week. Every person is different,
some people on the same diet and exercise program will only lose ½
pound per week but the bottom line …. Follow a good diet plan and
start that walking routine at work with your friends. You’ll feel
better and the exercise has other benefits such as cardiovascular
conditioning. Regular exercise is important for good health.
