Scarsdale Diet - There's a Better Way

 

The Scarsdale 14 day diet plan claims you can lose up to 20 pounds. You can lose weight on the Scarsdale diet by virtue of it's low calorie diet plan, but it's very easy to gain the weight back. Some people gain so much weight back that they become heavier than before the diet.

So what's the basic problem with the Scarsdale Diet Plan?

  • No flexibility

No substitutions are allowed. You eat exactly was is prescribed on the Scarsdale Diet. Now on the surface that sounds good, but in reality, you never learn how to make good food choices.

In a perfect world, you can eat exactly as the plan says but in the real world, certain foods are not always available and you always have to make decisions as to what to eat. To lose weight and keep it off, you must learn how to choose foods wisely on a daily basis.

  • Too few calories which causes weakness and irritability

It is true, to lose weight you must burn more calories than you take in. Despite the claims of many diet pill advertisers, nothing on the market is suddenly going to make your metabolism soar other than exercise. You must reduce calorie intake to lose weight. The trick is to not reduce calorie intake so radically that you cause a shock to your body.

Diets too few in calories cause your metabolism to slow down to meet the lower calorie demand. These diets also cause weakness and irritability during the day, usually when you need the most energy.

  • Hard to maintain

Any diet that is 1000 calories or less is usually hard to maintain because the temptation to cheat is overwhelming. It's hard enough to stay on a diet with adequate calories, let alone a diet that has too few calories.

  • Any weight that is lost is quickly gained back

Ask anybody who lost weight on a crash or fad diet how long they were able to keep the weight off. Statistics show that over 90% of those people who lost weight gained it back over time and few lose any significant amount of weight. A drastic change in calorie consumption is not the way to lose weight.
