I heard on a recent news station that you can
lose weight eating peanut butter? Is there any truth to this.
I always thought that peanut butter was fatty, so how can it be used
as a diet food?

Dear Mona,
You are right. Peanut butter
is high in mono-saturated fat (the good fat), but also high in
calories. Peanut butter has lots of good uses, unfortunately most
store bought peanut butter is highly process with lots of sugar,
extra fat and preservatives.
You can occasionally include peanut
butter in your diet but we suggest you don't make it a habit.
Two tablespoons of peanut butter contain 200 calories. Most people
slap lots of processed peanut butter on bread thinking it's some
type of healthy diet. Highly process bread and peanut butter is a
bad combination because of the simple carbs.
To lose weight, stick to a sensible
diet and eat 3 to 5 small meals of 300 calories each per day.
Include some type of daily exercise and strive to keep a low total
fat intake.
