I need to get on a low sodium diet. What do you
consider low sodium and what can I do to reduce the sodium content
of foods that I eat?

Dear Jack,
Most people should stay
under 2500 mg. of sodium per day. You can do this by becoming aware
of the sodium content of each food item that you eat. All foods have
labels, so read the label and stay within 2500 mg at the end of the
day.
You can also
switch to lower sodium products. Can soups tend to be very high in
sodium but if you switch to Campbell’s Healthy Request or Healthy
Choice soup, you can reduce sodium by 100%. Similarly, you can
reduce the sodium content from microwave popcorn by switching to low
sodium items such as Newman’s Own Light popcorn. There are plenty of
products that have a low sodium version of their regular product.
It’s all about reading the label and making wise food selections.
