I know that a healthy eating plan will help me lose weight, but I’ve been eating healthy for several months and I have not lost a single pound. What am I doing wrong? Can you please give me some tips?

Dear Stephanie,

What you described is a common problem. I have several tips to help you lose weight with a healthy eating plan.

  • Tip #1  Don’t consume too many or too few calories

Though you’re already on a healthy diet, it’s still easy to consume too many calories. Fruits tend to be higher in calories than vegetable. I’m not telling you to stop eating fruits. Fruits should be a part of every healthy diet and eating plan but don’t over do it. Four servings of fruits a day is good. That’s equivalent to roughly 400 calories per day in fruits.

To lose 1 to 2 pounds of fat per day, most women should stay within 1200 to 1500 calories per day. Most men should consume 1600 to 1900 calories per day to lose the same amount of weight.

  • Tip #2 Increase your activity level

Of all our tips, this is the least popular. The truth is that most people are far too inactive. They sit most of the day at work or home, never walk more than a few minutes at a time and avoid any type of physical exertion. Just watch the behavior of people at a busy parking lot. People would rather block traffic and wait for somebody to pull out of a space than park in an available space 10 feet away.

  • Tip #3 Eat more often

Try eating 4 to 5 small meals during the day instead of a few. People make the big mistake of skimping calories during the day only to eat a large dinner. Remember, you can still eat a healthy dinner and consume too many calories. Spread your calories through the day. Your body will burn fat much more efficiently.
