Grapefruit Juice Diet - Don't Do It

 

The fallacy of a grapefruit juice diet plan is that you can lose up to 10 pounds in 2 days. In reality, your metabolism doesn't work that fast. To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. Most women burn between 1900 and 2200 calories per day and men burn between 2400 and 2800 calories per day.

Since 1 pound of fat is equivalent to 3,500 calories, it would take nearly 14 days of not eating anything to lose 10 pounds of fat and not eating is a very unhealthy way to lose weight. So how does grapefruit juice make you lose 10 pounds in 2 days? Certainly no doctor or dietician can answer this question.

Some of the most unhealthy diets are crash diets and the grapefruit juice diet can be classified as another crash diet since very few foods are recommended, let alone a balanced meal plan. What adverse affect can a grapefruit juice diet have on you? For starters:

  • Weakness and irritability

  • Cause loss of muscle instead of fat

  • Lack nutrients that can only be found in real foods not juices.

  • Result in very little weight loss

  • Any weight loss is quickly gained back

  • Not recommend by health professionals

  • Acids may cause other health related problems
