  Dear Diet Tip,

Can you help! I'm always depressed and I'm overweight. I hate looking at myself in the mirror and I'm very self-conscious. I know that depression and diet are related because every time I eat junk food, I seem to get more depressed.  How can I get off this merry go-round.

You can help break the cycle of depression through diet and exercise. You can also try herbal remedies such as St. John Worts, but a good diet and exercise program can give you a tremendous up-lift.

When you eat healthy and exercise, you feel much better about yourself, regardless of whether you lose weight. If you stick to a healthy weight loss diet, you will also lose fat.

Regular exercise is great for removing depression. Any exercise that makes you sweat will definitely change your mood. You can enjoy low intensity exercise such as fast pace walking or cycling for 30 minutes. You can cycle at home on a stationary bike in front of the TV if you can't ride outside.

To fight depression, limit your consumption of sugar and fat. A diet too high in sugar will trigger depression and that's the last thing you need. You'll feel much better when you eat properly, exercise and see the weight come off.
