Statistics show that crash diets never work. Why? Because people who try a crash diet do the following:

  • Overeat or binge

Crash diets starve the body and when you starve, you'll naturally overeat, usually later in the day or at night. Crash diets are self defeating because very few people can starve themselves into weight loss.

  • Cause weakness and irritability

If you don't eat enough food, you will have low energy. A diet with too few calories will make you sluggish, weak and irritable. The body needs a certain amount of calories to function normally.

  • Crash diets burn muscle not fat

A drastic change in diet will cause the body to demand a  fast form of fuel. Muscle tissue can be broken into energy much faster than fat so your body will burn muscle instead of fat. The few people who lose weight on crash diets look terrible because they lose muscle instead of fat.

  • Any weight that is lost is quickly gained back

Ask anybody who lost weight on a crash diet (few have) how long were they able to keep the weight off. Statistics show that over 90% of those people re-gained weight within a few weeks and few lost any significant amount of weight. A drastic change in calories consumption is not the way to lose weight.
