Count Calories and Lose Weight

My friend told me that I should count calories if I truly wanted to lose weight . I hate this idea because it seems too hard and I'm not sure if it will work. What do you think?

Dear Margie,
 
Your friend told you right. You should count calories to lose weight. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. Most people will have a hard time doing this unless they count all the calories they take in each day.
 
Weight Watchers uses a point system which is just another way of counting calories. To lose weight, consume 25% less calories than normal. For most women, this comes to 1200 to 1500 calories and men ..... 1600 to 2000 calories.
 
Start by writing down each food item that you plan to eat for the day. Write down the calorie value next to each food item until you reach the above calorie limitation. You can buy a calorie counter mini-book or booklet at most supermarkets check-out stands for a few dollars. You can also go online to find interactive calorie counters.
 
Design your own diet plan where you count the total calories that you plan to eat for the day. If you stay within your calorie budget, you will lose weight. It's as simple as burning more calories than you take in.
