Discouragement is the worst enemy to losing weight. There will
be times when you blow a very good diet plan. Have you intended to order a grill chicken sandwich, salad and diet soda and ordered
a burger with fries and milk shake instead?
These moments happen to everyone. The guilt is tremendous and the
psychological damage is more destructive than the extra calories. When you have an unplanned eating binge, immediately plan your eating strategy
for the next day.
Setbacks are inevitable but shouldn't be used as an excuse to give up or
eat more. Accept the disappointment for that day AND MOVE ON.
Another major discouragement is to eat healthy and exercise for weeks and
months, only to step on the scale and see no improvement. We get countless email
concerning this problem.
Be sure that you are not consuming too many calories. Most women need to
plan between 1200 - 1600 calories per day and men 1600 - 2000 calories
per day to lose weight.
You should choose healthy foods to stay within your calorie margin
and understand that everyday will not be perfect. Some days you will eat
junk food and too many calories.
Continue to stay on your healthy diet and give your body time to adjust.
Be sure to exercise (30 minutes walks at least 3 times per week)
and the weight will come off. Sometimes the body doesn't respond rapidly
to dietary changes but you need to stay consistent in your eating
habits. In due time, the weight will come off and you'll be a much healthier
person.
BOTTOM LINE: When you overeat, don't beat yourself up. Accept the
momentary defeat and plan your next day strategy.
If you're not losing weight after maintaining a good diet with regular
exercise, you may be consuming too many calories per day. However,
some need more time for their body to adjust (sometimes several months)
to the new routine.
